The Roots of Music Student Sponsorship Program Roots of Music is a not-for-profit organization designed to address the critical need for middle-school music education, academic tutoring and mentoring in the city of New Orleans. The program is currently the only free after-school and summer music program for children between the ages of 9 and 14. Our goal is to provide New Orleans’ youth with the necessary skills to perpetuate New Orleans' unique musical tradition while keeping our city’s youths away from the dangers of the streets. By rekindling the marching band culture for youths, we commit ourselves to preserving our city’s musical legacy and most importantly providing a productive alternative to street life.
Give a child the gift of music:
Currently, over 100 students are participating in our program and over 400 children are on a waiting list to enroll. Your support will help Roots of Music remain tuition free to all participants. When you choose to sponsor a child for Roots of Music, you are giving a child a hands-on music curriculum incorporating discipline, music theory, instrumental instruction, and physical training. Your $3,500 tax-deductible donation also provides your child with:
